About Dan
I enjoy spending time with my wife Erin, a community pharmacist, and our two daughters Madee (13) and Mary (11) who are active in basketball and soccer and love spending time outdoors. We enjoy rafting, hiking, camping, fishing and chasing our mini golden-doodle Lulu around Helena’s trails. I am also an avid fly fisherman and bow hunter and like to spend time recharging and relaxing in the rivers and mountains in Lewis and Clark County.

Dan's Story
I am a proud graduate of the University of Montana School of Law. While at U of M, I met my wife Erin (Grammar) Guzynski who was studying to become a pharmacist.
While attending law school I worked as a paid legal intern at the Missoula County Attorney’s Office prosecuting criminal cases. This experience led me to understand the huge impact that prosecutors have on our communities and counties. As one of the top prosecutors in the State of Montana for the past 22 years, I know that it is the job of our Lewis & Clark County Attorney - our county's chief prosecutor - to both be tough on violent crime and to advocate for victims - all while ensuring justice is carried out in a fair and equitable manner.
In pursuing my career goals and deepening my understanding of the role of the County Attorney Office, I took on full time legal positions as a prosecutor with the Cascade County Attorney’s Office and then the Flathead County Attorney’s Office, handling a full felony caseload in each position. In 2007, Erin and I moved to Helena where I began work at the Prosecution Services Bureau at the Montana Department of Justice when I was hired by Attorney General Mike McGrath. In this position, I served county attorney offices across the state, stepping in to prosecute complex cases where offices did not have the resources or expertise to do so, or where there was a conflict of interest. This work also allowed me to train and mentor many of Montana’s prosecutors - a skill that is paramount to ensure proper leadership and to foster talent in the County Attorney’s Office.
In 2018 I became the Bureau Chief of the Prosecution Services Bureau under Attorney General Tim Fox. I currently serve in this position where I manage 13 attorneys and support staff and primarily handle the prosecution of homicide and child sexual assault cases.
I have devoted my entire career to being a successful prosecutor - holding offenders responsible for victimizing Montanans for more than 22 years. Each day, I have worked to protect the citizens of our state - trying approximately 45 felony jury trials, including 15 homicide trials and numerous child sexual abuse cases. I have worked with numerous law enforcement agencies - from County Attorneys to Local Sheriff’s Departments to the Highway and U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency (Homeland Security) to obtain favorable and just outcomes.
I am proud of the work I have accomplished across our state throughout my long career and I look forward to putting my skills and expertise to work for Lewis & Clark County. I respectfully ask for your vote on November 8th.
